Saiho-ji Teien – Garden

Information : Saiho-ji Teien | 西芳寺庭園

This garden built by Soseki Muso in 1339 ,who also made the gardens of Nanzen-ji temple in Kyoto and Erin-ji in Yamanashi, is called Moss temple . The garden has separated to two steps. The upper row is a dry landscape garden style and the low row is the pond garden style. The garden covered by 120 kinds of moss is like a green carpet.

Muso Soseki : He was a Zen priest living in the Kamakura period to the Muromachi period. He was known also as a prominent landscape gardener who built the garden of Tenryu temple in Kyoto.

Hours : *Only seeing a garden is NOT accepted. A reservation in advance is needed.
