Information :

Tenryu-ji Garden established by Takauji Ashikaga(1305-1358) is the head temple of the Tenryu-ji branch of Rizai Zen sect and is ranked number one among Five Mountains in Kyoto (京都五山). It is a masterpiece of the garden which could see Arashiyama (Mt.Arashi) and Kameyama(Mt.Kame) for the background of the garden(Shakkei Technique). This garden made by Soseki Muso is a strolling pond garden style. Before the Meiji Restoration, a building was burned down because of a war and the present main building was restored in 1899.

Soseki Muso: Soseki Muso was a Zen priest living in the Kamakura period to the Muromachi period. He was known also as a eminent landscape gardener who built the garden of Saiho-ji and? the Tenryu temple in Kyoto.
