Information :

Touno area is located on near the border of Nara and Kyoto. Since Touno area was influenced on Nara Buddhism, many temples were erected during the Kamakura period (the 11th century).

Most of temples were ruined after wars, thus a few temples, many statues of Buddha and stone towers can be seen now.

The road that leads from Joruri-ji Temple of 1.5km in length to Gansen-ji temple is famous as a hiking trail.

Spots in this area :

  • Jyoruri-ji temple(浄瑠璃寺) – 9 Buddha statues and Pagoda are National treasures
  • Gansen-ji temple (岩船寺) >> the marker on this map
  • Statues on streets
    • Karasu no tsubo (lit: a pot of Crow)
    • Warai botoke( lit: Smiling Buddha statue)? and more

Access to this area :

40 min by train from Kyoto Sta. to Kamo Sta. + 45 min by bus from Kamo Sta. to Jyoruri-ji temple Stop or Gansen-ji Stop
